Newcastle Island

Newcastle Island is a provincial park just opposite Nanaimo’s Maffeo-Sutton Park, downtown.  This is Tierce and me on the way back.  Take a look at our adventure!

Tierce checking out the water on the Maffeo-Sutton dock. Scary!

Tierce is not sure about this ferry thing. It's $9 per adult human return, but Shibas are free.

Tierce inspecting the limestone quarry. Ew, Tierce, don't drink that nasty, scummy water!

This is one of our BC Ferries. Vancouver Islanders have a love/hate relationship with these boats. They let us get off the Island, but they cost a bundle to bring a car across.

Tierce on the northwest side of Newcastle. We had just seen an otter slide into the ocean, but it was too quick for me to get my BlackBerry out to snap a picture.

Tierce learns the folly of killing people. We hope.

Tierce trying to convince me that he really *needs* to go fling himself into the ghastly-smelling swamp just beyond him. I said no.

Mischa and Tierce on the ferry home. We had walked 10 km through and around the island and Tierce was still Mr. BouncyPants - until we got home and he crashed for the rest of the afternoon and evening.
