I totally agree with your comments about Susan's attention to temperament. Kimiko is a Sunojo shiba, and while both Eric and Kimi are friendly, she is definitely much more easygoing with other dogs and new people. Eric is much more shy and hesitant about being petted, and gets a bit more nervous around new dogs. We spend lots of time letting them interact with other dogs though, and have to say recall is still a work in progress (especially for Kimi who loves to hunt!)
We run into soooo many people who are surprised at how friendly Kimi and Eric are, having encountered aggressive shibas.

Notice my initials are the same as the website... hmmm. Your descriptions of life with Shassi actually helped us come to the decision to get a Shiba. I figured any dog who could inspire that kind of love and that kind of sarcasm was right for me. I also noted Shiba-people have a great sense of humor and I liked that too.

We've had Prince Zuko (aka @demondogsports on Twitter) for over a year now. He was my first dog other than the ones we had running around when I was a kid. My vet politely told me Shibas are not "starter dogs" and gave me "that look". So we went to lots of training, we worked hard, we had Zuko neutered right on time.

He is a great dog. He guards me, but has started to learn to let people in the house when I say it is OK. He isn't thrilled about kids and I can't blame him - I suspect he picks up on that from me. If the kids are providing treats, he loves them. Recall is so-so, but about 70%. He's OK being alone, he goes to doggie daycare and runs wild with the pack there twice a week, he let's other people handle him if he has to (nail trims) and is just a really good, though independent and intelligent, dog. I suspect most dog owners would not agree that he is a good dog since they don't like the "independent and intelligent" aspect of some breeds, but he's been the perfect dog for us!
