I figured that it would be a good place to put questions so they have a wider audience. Dunno if it’ll be popular, but I get a few questions over the year, so it might end up helping people to find answers. Of course, if you’re looking for a really good established forum, the Shiba Inu Forum at the Nihon Ken Forum is an excellent resource.
Yeah I got tired of the dark TMS. Now we’re playing with the light TMS!
I finally got off my ass and got Feedburner to handle all the wonderful posts of this blog. AND I made a Shiba RSS image! It’s now on the top right menu bar.
Happy New Year 2010!
Let me know how it goes!
Yeah, I made some changes, because I was tired of all the links taking up every freakin’ last bit of my sidenavs. Yay! More room for advertisements! Well, at least they’re for books I’ve actually read and liked.
In other news, the Official Kitty62 Hat may soon become the unofficial Shiba Hat of no particular number. It came to me that taking this hat pattern, knitting it in orange thread and sewing on some buttons and a white circle for the muzzle would make a Shiba hat! I’ll post pictures when I’m done (if I’m done) and perhaps you may actually see me in a picture for once.
The latest news is that I don’t know what is happening with Shassi, which is one of the problems when you leave a dog to be taken care of by other people, even if those people are your family. My mother and aunt are inclined to see if there is anything left to be salvaged and I’m feeling somewhat betrayed by the fact that they set me up to believe that they had made the choice to put her down.
We’re going to await the vet’s decision, but my original opinion still stands; she doesn’t seem to be having a good time and she doesn’t seem to be aware of the things around her most of the time. If she can have a longer happy life, that’s great, but at this point I doubt it and only want to make her comfortable. Keep us in your thoughts on Saturday and I will update when the decision is made. I won’t have her suffering simply because she isn’t showing obvious signs of pain.
In other news, apparently my host’s move to the new server was not without casualties
In a nutshell:
The owners of Bella, the missing Shiba report:
“…from the standpoint of felony liability, the DA had to prove Animal Control had clearly made the defendant aware he had an aggressive dog, or prove it had bitten before. Regardless of what had happened in the previous attacks, Animal Control was not able to show they had clearly educated the defendant about the aggressive potential of his dog, even after 3 aggressive dog calls.”
If you can’t tell that you have an aggressive dog, you should stay the fuck away from everything that walks on four legs or two. Put yourself in a diaper and turn in your driver’s license while you’re at it. For the rest of us. For the children. For whoever or whatever will keep you away from normal, sane human beings who take responsibility for their actions.
(in retrospect, I realized that that post had not been deleted. Oh well.)
There is a happy story associated with Bella’s family. They have adopted Sammy, a rescue Shiba Inu in dire straits. Don’t miss his story!
An Oregon puppymill has not been shut down yet and they had Shibas:
A somewhat graphic page on the Shibas rescued from “Snugglebunnies”
The blog A Winnie Day has an awesome post about a Shiba seminar that Winnie’s person attended. There’s some interesting perspectives on the Shiba’s history as a hunting dog that Shiba people shouldn’t miss.
Due to popular acclaim, I have decided to instate an old incarnation of TMS right here (or look at the very top of the left menu). I think this is a good move, as it gives people a single page to review the joyousness of bringing a Shiba into their lives. Thanks to all whose feedback made their enjoyment of the original page apparent to me!
No website is really good without the input of the people who read it, who ask questions and who make comments. To horribly misquote and butcher John Donne: “No Shiba Blog is an Island.”
Yep, I loves me some WordPress. This blog won’t be updated any more. Head on over to
for more Shiba goodness!
Every so often, I go Googling for “misanthropic shiba” just to see what people are sayin’… and I found this blog post. It’s on NYCGadgetGirl’s blog. NYCGG does her some awesome Shiba Rescue stuff. Anyway she was saying that this very, very old incarnation of TMS was “funnier than hell”. The impression I got was that this site as it is now isn’t quite as funny as that one page I posted eons back.
Things change. I changed… a lot from the person who posted that rant/information back in 199-something. Perhaps I’ve lost a little of the irreverence. I still swear on my blog, though! That’s got to count for something.
Actually, when I went and reread it, I thought it was still funny… maybe not as Hell, but it could possibly give Hell a run for its money. Maybe I should take the old content and post it on a “TMS in a nutshell” page or “A Heartless Brochure About The Shiba Inu – Print It Out And Tell Your Friends” or something. Thoughts?
Well, shibainus.ca is back up and running and so is the blog. I’m not sure what I’m doing with this blog; might keep it for a while and just post to both or eventually switch to the WordPress one. I’m tired.
